Biography

Kanenechukwu Ubesie, M.D., M.B.A., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in surgical critical care, trauma surgery, general surgery, and burns and wound care.

Dr. Ubesie earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After completing a residency in general surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, she gained advanced training in burn surgery through a fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. She completed an additional fellowship in surgical critical care at Albany Medical Center in New York and completed an executive master’s of business administration degree at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business in May, 2023.

Certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Ubesie joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022. She previously served at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest as Surgical Intensive Care Unit Co-Director, Vice-Chair of Surgery, and Chair of Surgery.

Dr. Ubesie is the Trauma Medical Director at UT Southwestern Frisco, and she serves on the general surgery core faculty of The Osler Institute. She has been invited to speak at numerous venues across the country on topics related to her areas of clinical interest, which include trauma and burn surgery as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion in medicine.

A Fellow of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Ubesie is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association.

She has been recognized as a top physician by several organizations, including Leading Physicians of the World, Patient Preferred Physicians and Practitioners, Super Doctors, and Trauma Champions at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Ubesie enjoys attending church, public speaking, traveling, volunteering, music, and many types of fitness, including cross-training, hiking, cycling, running, swimming, skiing, and snowboarding.
