Skilled Surgeons Revise Past Procedures

Complications from bariatric procedures are uncommon, but they can happen. UT Southwestern’s specialized bariatric surgeons perform revision (“redo”) operations.

Revisional bariatric surgery is complex, and patients require individual counseling and a tailored approach. Our bariatric surgeons work with patients to understand why revisional surgery may be necessary and to explore other bariatric surgical options.

Revisional Bariatric Surgery Options

Not all patients who have undergone bariatric surgery are candidates for revision surgery. In general, however, options for revisional bariatric procedures include:

• Laparoscopic gastric banding reversal
• Revision to a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
• Revision or reversal to a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
• Sleeve gastrectomy conversion to a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
