Daniel Costa, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Division. He is a board-certified radiologist whose clinical interests include imaging modalities used to study conditions of the abdomen and pelvis, particularly multiparametric MRI and MRI-guided targeted biopsies for the detection and characterization of prostate cancer.
Dr. Costa earned his medical degree at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, where he also completed both his residency in radiology and fellowship in abdominal imaging. He completed additional advanced training in body MRI through a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011, Dr. Costa served as Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of São Paulo and as Vice Chief of Clinical Operations in Radiology at the Institute of Cancer of São Paulo, Brazil's largest cancer hospital.
Dr. Costa is a nationally recognized researcher in the field of prostate cancer, and his work has resulted in multiple original research articles, publications, and conference presentations. He has also contributed to several medical textbooks, including Atlas of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging, CT and MR Angiography: A Comprehensive Vascular Assessment, and Textbook of Oncology.
In addition to his publishing activities, Dr. Costa serves as a reviewer for Radiology, Investigative Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, European Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Journal, Urology, Abdominal Radiology, Urologic Oncology, and the International Brazilian Journal of Urology.
Dr. Costa is an active member of numerous national and international professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, the European Society of Radiology, the American College of Radiology, the American Urological Association, the Texas Radiological Society, and the Council of Early Career Investigators in Imaging. As a member of the Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance, he received the organization's prestigious Lauterbur Award.
In 2019, Dr. Costa received UT Southwestern's Patient and Family Recognition Award.
