Biography

Vijay Muraliraj, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in colon and rectal surgery, especially minimally invasive management of colon and rectal cancer and treatment of hemorrhoids.

A Ft. Worth native, Dr. Muraliraj earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern, where he also completed a residency in general surgery. He gained advanced training in colorectal surgery through a fellowship at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. He also holds an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from Brown University.

Certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. Previously, he was Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California.

Dr. Muraliraj is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Muraliraj enjoys trying out new restaurants, watching and playing sports, and spending time with family.
