Biography

Varatharaj Mounasamy, M.D, M.B.A., FACS, is a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in primary hip and knee arthroplasty, geriatric fractures, peri-prosthetic fractures, and general orthopedics/resident education.

Dr. Mounasamy has completed fellowship training in four orthopedic sub-specialties: Musculoskeletal Oncology, Joint Replacement Arthroplasty, Pediatric Orthopedics, and Orthopedic Trauma.

Dr. Mounasamy came to UT Southwestern from VCU Health System/VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia, where he served on the faculty for 12 years. Since 2014, he was the Director of Orthopedic Trauma at VCU Health System’s busy Level I trauma center, as well as the Program Director for the ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at VCU Health System.

Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.
