To help determine how and why a loved one has passed away, the Pathology Department provides autopsy services for UT Southwestern hospitals.
The physician who cared for your loved one will first reach out to the next of kin for consent. The Chaplain’s Office then helps to coordinate services with the family, funeral home, and pathologists.
After the autopsy is performed, the family can expect the final autopsy report to be finalized within six to eight weeks. Family members can request a copy of the autopsy report from Medical Records.
We recommend sharing the autopsy report with your family physician to help explain the findings. If you have specific questions regarding the report, the pathologists who performed the autopsy can discuss it with you and/or your family physician.
