At UT Southwestern Cardiology, we are pleased to host Circulation, the world’s premier cardiovascular journal, for which I serve as Editor-in-Chief. Among our 40-some editors positioned around the world (17 countries), approximately a third are based within our Division. Our team is leading a worldwide effort to vet emerging discoveries and help to point the way for impactful and new advances going forward.

At #AHA24, we were pleased to host two well-attended sessions: a joint session with our friends at the European Heart Journal and our annual Circulation Symposium. In the former, we benefited from four 15-minute talks focused on “2024: The Year In…,” including heart failure, cardio-oncology, imaging, and cardio-metabolism. This year’s Symposium hosted 90 minutes of short talks that addressed our Centennial Collection, advances in echocardiography, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and much more. Both sessions were impactful and enjoyable.

We also made an exciting announcement this year. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, we are launching a pilot initiative with the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in which authors submitting cardiovascular manuscripts can indicate their desire to have their submission – and external peer reviewer comments – submitted directly to Circulation if the submission is not accepted at the NEJM. This seamless referral is intended as a service to authors, facilitating the rapid evaluation of their work as it ultimately finds an appropriate “home.” We at Circulation, as well as Eric J. Rubin, M.D., Ph.D., and team at the NEJM, view this as a win-win for our authors and for our journals. Stay tuned!
