Biography

Robyn Horsager-Boehrer, M.D., is Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. She also is a member of UT Southwestern’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She holds the Luis Lieb, M.D., Professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Horsager-Boehrer earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship training in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

As part of UT Southwestern’s maternal-fetal medicine team, Dr. Horsager-Boehrer's primary focus is ultrasonography and prenatal diagnosis. She has more than 20 years of experience caring for women who are at high risk for developing problems during pregnancy. As a mother of twins herself, she offers her patients a unique perspective on the management and delivery of multi-fetal pregnancies.

She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as maternal-fetal medicine and is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Meet Dr. Horsager-Boehrer

Ob/Gyn Specialist

As an Ob/Gyn and maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Robyn Horsager-Boehrer, M.D.’s work is often about putting together pieces of a puzzle. She helps women with high-risk pregnancies by gathering clues through symptoms they report and information from tests.

“We want to determine the best way to take care of the mother and the baby throughout the pregnancy,” Dr. Horsager-Boehrer says.

In her main patient-care role at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Horsager-Boehrer performs and interprets ultrasounds and invasive fetal testing such as amniocentesis. She and her team – including Drs. Patricia Santiago-Muñoz and Julie Lo – use this information, along with results from other tests like fetal MRI, to manage patients whose fetuses have congenital problems.

Women come to Dr. Horsager-Boehrer for many different reasons. For example, she helps take care of women whose own health is compromised – from cancer, heart disease, GI disease, or even organ transplant – who become pregnant.

As the C-section rate has risen over the past decade and more, she’s also seen a higher number of women who are at risk for surgical complications from repeat cesarean sections.

“The mom may be at higher risk for bleeding, needing a hysterectomy, or having other surgical complications, and we feel that those things are best handled at a center – like UT Southwestern– that handles these complications more often,” she says.

Her team also sees women whose babies have been diagnosed with a health problem in utero. Team members work closely with Children’s Health℠ so that these babies get the care they need after they are born.

In addition, Dr. Horsager-Boehrer serves as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, where she’s worked for more than a decade to improve care for women with complex pregnancies.

The key to her team’s success is its ability to work together and with other groups at UT Southwestern.

“I work with a great group of providers,” she says. “It’s not about us as individuals; it’s about the team effort. And we’ve built connections with our colleagues in other disciplines — cardiology, pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology, surgery, pediatric surgery, neonatology – so that we can work together to take care of moms with complex personal or fetal issues.”
